What Do SPH, CYL and AXIS Mean?

SPH—Spherical Power

SPH is the main corrective power for myopia or hyperopia. Minus SPH values are commonly prescribed for short-sightedness.

CYL—Cylinder

CYL represents the amount of astigmatism correction required. The selected cylinder must match your contact-lens prescription.

AXIS

AXIS indicates the direction of astigmatism correction and is measured between 0° and 180°. It must be used together with the prescribed CYL value.

SPH, CYL and AXIS work together. Do not select the nearest available power or change your axis merely because another option appears in the dropdown.
